The Aim of Midwifery Department The Midwifery Department aims to train midwives with advanced research and problem-solving skills, cultural sensitivity, a close tracking of contemporary practices, the ability to take responsibility independently or as a member of a healthcare team, sensitivity to professional ethical standards, forward-thinking attitudes, developed spiritual skills, a holistic perspective, and a focus on the naturalness and privacy of childbirth, centered around meeting the needs of women, in accordance with contemporary educational principles. In developed countries where the midwifery care model is implemented, the rate of positive experiences during childbirth and the postpartum period is high, while unnecessary interventions, cesarean sections, and maternal and infant mortality rates are low. The application of the midwifery care model is one of the most crucial factors that enhances the level of development in society. In this regard, the Midwifery Department is dedicated to educating midwives who embrace, implement, and advance the midwifery care model. Educational Objectives of the Department Our graduates, with the knowledge, skills, and awareness acquired during their midwifery undergraduate education, aim to: offer midwifery services in both public and private healthcare establishments, or through establishing an independent practice, demonstrating a heightened awareness of roles and responsibilities across all life stages, particularly focusing on the phases of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period in order to safeguard and enhance health. continue professional development in line with the principle of lifelong learning. actively engage in academic and scientific research nationally and internationally, contributing to the development of professional policies. take on roles in various capacities within organizations established for professional and community service or participates in social projects. They manage childbirth under their responsibility, delivering holistic, culturally sensitive, evidence-based care. In the postpartum period, midwives provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based care for women and newborns. Midwives offer holistic, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based care related to women's health and in situations of pregnancy termination or loss, in accordance with national protocols. With a strong sense of professional ethics, midwives are knowledgeable about and adhere to their legal rights and responsibilities. They actively develop themselves in line with their interests and competencies. Midwives monitor, develop, and utilize advancements in science and technology necessary for midwifery practices. Proficient in spoken and written Turkish, they possess at least one foreign language proficiency. They have the ability to design research specific to midwifery, collect data, analyze results, interpret findings, and report effectively. They have awareness of the historical development, definition, universal and societal impacts, and legal consequences of the midwifery profession at the national and international levels.
